I recently got the chance to meet our latest designer Claire Fleury last week during New York fashion week where she held an art and fashion exhibit at the Strange Loop Gallery in the lower Eastside (which by the way she & photographer Alesia Exum run!). I had previously spoken to Claire before about being a fan of her designs and what her clothing represents to NYC club culture. While attending her exhibit that doubled as a look at her new pieces she would be introducing to her clothing line “Claire Fleury Atelier NYC”. She went on to explain her brand, the inspiration behind her designs, and as well as a run down on herself!
Claire says she designs clothes that are a fun and wearable mix of ultra hip, modern and vintage styles, inspired on street looks, club wear and glam pop, with a little sixties mod added on for the extra style! As a punk kid growing up in the streets of Amsterdam, then a dancer and actress, running her own theatre company in Europe for many years, Claire recently moved to New York to do what she loves most: making clothes to flaunt the streets in, pass the line at clubs, turns heads at the theatre and restaurants and just look comfortably fabulous. She combines the glamorous with pop classics like the hoodie, changes the history of the harem pant by making them out of plaid fabrics, and generally shakes up the notion of what can and cannot be combined according to mainstream fashion. Her clothes are originals, mostly one-of-a kinds, which she makes to order at her own atelier, located within Strange Loop Gallery. A selection of her designs is also for sale at Patricia Field New York City!
As You can see Claire has been a VERY busy person since she’s made her splash to the NYC fashion scene! Make sure you keep your eyes and ears open for her! I’m almost sure will be hearing/seeing MORE from her!
